Si intitola “Law of The Journey” (La legge del viaggio) l’ultima, colossale opera dell’artista dissidente cinese Ai Weiwei. L’opera si trova a Praga presso la Galleria Nazionale ed è la più grande opera singola da lui finora realizzata.
“Law of the Journey” è un enorme gommone di 70 metri di lunghezza con 258 figure di migranti a bordo, e sarà esposta per tutto l’anno all’interno di una delle sale della Galleria. Nel spiegare il suo lavoro, Ai Weiwei, ha dichiarato che “la vera sfida e la vera crisi non è di tutte le persone che sentono il dolore ma piuttosto delle persone che rifiutano di riconoscerlo o fanno finta che non esista. Questa è una tragedia, ed è anche un crimine”.
Noto per le sue posizioni critiche verso il governo di Pechino, Ai Weiwei è stato rinchiuso in carcere in Cina per 81 giorni nel 2011 e il suo passaporto è stato sequestrato per quattro anni. Nell’ultimo anno l’artista cinese ha visitato diversi luoghi di passaggio dei migranti, come il confine fra Stati Uniti e Messico, quello fra Siria e Turchia e i campi profughi su alcune isole greche. In passato aveva già effettuato installazioni sul tema dei migranti, come quella sulle colonne della Konzerthaus di Berlino, decorata con 14 mila giubbotti di salvataggio arancioni dall’isola di Lesbo.
“Credo che il mio messaggio sia molto chiaro – ha detto l’artista – i politici e i partiti non possono essere così miopi, avere così poca visione, non possono sacrificare la dignità umana e i diritti umani per un obiettivo politico, credo che sia un comportamento davvero vergognoso”.
